Description
You are bidding on this vintage,Schlitz Beer
, Neon Sign, manufactured in 1974!
I got this sign in 1975, when I was a Junior in High School, from my friend’s Father, who owned a Deli / Liquor Store.
The electrical cord was cut and they were not using it.
I repaired the electrical cord and have had this neon sign ever since.
The best part is that I have not used the sign for more than two hours total, since I got it!!
It’s as close to New Old Stock at it gets!
Its was at my parents’ house and when I got married, I moved it and it’s been in my basement the last 32 years!
I am retired now, and down-sizing, so this barely used Neon Sign is looking for a new home.
This Schlitz Neon Sign measures:
23-1/4 inches across
x
5-1/2 inches front to back
x
9-1/8 inches tall
This sign has the original stickers on the transformer including a blue Underwriters Laboratories, Gas Tube Sign Transformer, Part Number A-7849.
There is also a Union Made Product Label, with a Serial Number of:
H04991186.
See photo.
I made a two piece, fully telescoping box from heavy duty double wall corrugated to fit this sign, so that I could ship it, and have it arrive safely.
It includes lots and lots of bubble wrap cushioning!
The total weight of the Neon Sign and Box with all packing materials weighs in at over 15 pounds.

Here is a brief Wikipedia History of Schlitz Beer:
The
Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company
was an American brewery based in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin
, and once the largest producer of
beer in the United States
. Its namesake beer, Schlitz, was known as "The beer that made Milwaukee famous" and was advertised with the slogan "When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer".
Schlitz first became the largest beer producer in the US in 1902 and enjoyed that status at several points during the first half of the 20th century, exchanging the title with
Anheuser-Busch
multiple times during the 1950s.
The company was founded by August Krug in 1849, but ownership passed to
Joseph Schlitz
in 1858 when he married Krug's widow.
Schlitz was bought by
Stroh Brewery Company
in 1982 and subsequently sold along with the rest of Stroh's assets to
Pabst Brewing Company
in 1999.
Pabst produced several varieties of Schlitz beers alongside
Old Milwaukee
.
On November 13, 2014, Pabst announced that it had completed its sale to Blue Ribbon Intermediate Holdings, LLC. Blue Ribbon is a partnership between American beer entrepreneur
Eugene Kashper
and
TSG Consumer Partners
, a San Francisco–based private equity firm.
